HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - A Democratic State Representative is charged with DUI in a crash that happened near the Capitol on Thursday evening.

Right near her overturned vehicle on Capitol Avenue in Hartford, State Representative Robin Comey (D-Branford) could be seen seemingly struggling to walk a straight line during a sobriety test before she was cuffed.

Comey's vehicle looks like it hit a parked car before flipping upside down.

This would not be the first alcohol issue for Comey, who issued an apology for drinking two years ago after a video appeared to show her experiencing difficulty speaking in the Connecticut legislature.

State House Speaker Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) issued a statement on the arrest:

This was an extremely dangerous situation and somebody could have been seriously injured, including Rep. Comey. I want to thank Hartford Police for their quick response.

My immediate reaction is to think about Rep. Comey’s next steps. I hope she focuses on her health and wellbeing and I know that her friends and colleagues will support her in any way we can.

In light of the seriousness of this situation, I am immediately removing Rep. Comey from all committee and leadership assignments until further notice.

Rep. Comey or her aides have not yet issued a statement.
