
Storrs, Conn./WTIC Radio - The UConn men's basketball team received a hero's welcome on the way back to Storrs Tuesday night.
Fresh off winning a second consecutive NCAA national championship, the Huskies arrived at Bradley International Airport just before 7:00 p.m.
From there, it was a police escort back to campus for the Gampel Pavilion rally with a few thousand of their closest friends.
Three team buses streamed through the streets of Tolland, greeted by cheering fans as they rode by.
Shortly after 9:00, the team and coaches were greeted by thunderous applause and cheering from their fans.
"This group got together in June and we started working real hard for this", said head coach Dan Hurley.
Sophomore center and Bristol native Donovan Clingan said "UConn has a big standard now and that's winning championships".
A parade is planned for Saturday and will step off from the State Capitol at 11:00 a.m., followed by another rally in front of the XL Center in Hartford.
