Westport, Conn./WTIC Radio - Fire officials in Westport say three people jumped from a second-floor window to escape flames at a mixed occupancy building in town Wednesday night.

The call came in just before midnight to a building on Post Road East that housed a dog and cat boarding facility on the first floor and basement, as well as a second floor apartment.
Firefighters and police officers rescued 50 cats and dogs from the structure.
The three occupants were awakened by smoke alarms but were unable to escape because the exit was blocked by flames, according to firefighters.
That's when they made the decision to jump from that second floor, firefighters said.
They were assessed at the scene but did not require medical treatment.
The Norwalk and Wilton Fire Departments provided station coverage during the incident.
The Westport fire marshal's office is investigating.
