The Connecticut Department of Correction says the inmate who escaped from Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London has been apprehended.
A DOC spokesperson says Nicole Besse, 39, was being treated at L&M Hospital when she managed to slip out of her wrist restraints around 4 a.m. Monday and left the hospital's grounds.
The DOC says the search was expansive with help from Connecticut State Troopers with K9 Units, local police, and members of the Department of Correction's Fugitive Investigations Unit and Security Division.
Besse, a Waterbury resident, was being held at York Correctional Institution in Niantic while awaiting a court date on a failure to appear charge. She last entered the system on February 19, 2026.
The DOC says Besse will now face additional charges.
