Berlin, Conn./WTIC Radio - Crews who've been fighting the Hawthorne brush fire at Lamentation Mountain in Berlin have made significant progress in the fight.

Officials say they now have the fire 73-percent contained, holding at 127 acres.

As a result, crews say they are shifting into a patrol and monitor status.

They will continue to keep an eye out for hot spots and flare ups due to the persistent dry conditions.

In another development a portion of Giuffrida Park has been reopened as of Thursday morning.

Chauncey Peak and the reservoir loop are also now accessible.

Other trails that remain closed are marked as such, fire officials said.
