Southington, Conn. (WTIC Radio)-Despite warm weather, Mount Southington welcomed skiers on Sunday, opening day, said Marketing Manager Brian McCluskey.
"It was pretty good, all things considered. We haven't had a cold start to the season, and making snow is a challenge. But our crew went above and beyond, finding any opportunity to make snow.
Last year's opening day was busier, said McCluskey. But he points out a huge snowstorm hit before they opened and that created demand. Further, he said Covid pushed people outside seeking something to do.
According to McCluskey right now six of fourteen trails are open, featuring a snow base of 12 to 18 inches. He hopes if colder weather comes, two more trails can open this weekend.
With children out of school, McCluskey said he expects this week to be a busy one.
