EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police arrest an East Lyme man in connection with a crash involving a State Police cruiser that nearly injured a Trooper.
Around 12:34 a.m., the Trooper was helping a vehicle that was out of gas and pulled over on the side of I-95 Northbound in East Haven, around Exit 52.
Body cam footage shows the Trooper walking to the disabled vehicle and evaluating their situation when, seconds later, the 2021 Volkswagen that Thomas Larivee, 32, of East Lyme, was driving slammed into the side of the State Police Cruiser.

The Cruiser then was pushed slightly into the back of the disabled vehicle.
The Trooper jumped away from the scene of the crash, avoiding injury.
Larivee, according to State Police, was showing physical signs of impairment during the course of the accident investigation.
Larivee was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and or drugs and following too closely resulting in a motor vehicle accident.
Police say Larivee was hospitalized with suspected minor injuries.
No one else was hurt.
