Suspect dead in East Hartford shooting

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - East Hartford Police are investigating the shooting of a suspect in connection with an attempted robbery at a store Thursday night.

Police say two suspects, wearing black ski masks, went inside the Humble & Paid Co. at 1285 Main Street after 10:30 p.m. Thursday, with plans to rob the business.

A brief struggle took place between the store clerk and one of the suspects who pulled out a firearm and shot the clerk in the back.

Police say at that time, the store clerk was able to return fire with two of his legally registered firearms, striking one of the suspects several times.

Emergency personnel provided life saving measures to the suspect. He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

The second suspect ran out of the building during the initial struggle and has not been located.

Police aren't releasing any names at this time.
