Hartford, Conn./WTIC Radio - The union representing group home and day program workers is announcing a contract agreement that ends a weekslong strike.

SEIU Local 1199 has agreed to contracts with a half dozen agencies.

The two-year deal is effective July 1.

Direct care providers will receive a raise of $1.25-an-hour or more in the first year.

Union president Rob Baril notes that some will get seniority raises of up to 14-percent.

The state budget signed this week by Governor Lamont includes $150-million in additional Medicaid funding for group home and day providers.

Over 1,700 workers had been on the picket line since May 24.
