What is Fill The Fridge?
“Fill the Fridge” is an ongoing partnership with Audacy, Ralphs, and Food 4 Less supporting non-profits who provide meals to underserved communities along with helping to eliminate food waste.
Nearly one in five LGBTQ households reported not getting enough food to eat everyday since the pandemic began. On any given day there are 6,000 homeless youth living on Los Angeles streets. 40% of these youth are LGBTQ. 24% of LGBT seniors don’t have enough food to eat each month
Pride Pantry was created in response to food insecurity exacerbated by the pandemic and economic crisis. A growing number of existing clients, including homeless and low-income youth, seniors, and immigrants, reported increased challenges securing food as the pandemic unfolded.
Low-income and homeless older adults are among the most vulnerable populations supported by Pride Pantry Fighting Hunger.
Each week, Pride Pantry produces over 400 boxes of dried goods, fresh produce, and other perishables for pick up at the Hollywood campus, Mi Centro, and Center South. Another 90 bags of groceries are prepared each week by Pride Pantry for delivery to seniors’ homes by Senior Angels. In addition, food bags are delivered to youth connected to rapid rehousing through the Center who do not own cars to collect food direct from Pride Pantry. To supplement, the Center purchases items to boost the nutritional value of the produce boxes and to supply a dedicated pantry at the Youth Center and Triangle Square to address food insecurity.
