Poll: Harris is more trusted on policing and crime than Trump

When it comes to policing and crime in the United States, a new poll shows voters think Vice President Kamala Harris is more trusted to handle the issue than former President Donald Trump.

According to a new Redfield & Wilton Strategies poll, 43% of respondents said they trusted Harris more on policing and crime while 40% said they trusted Trump more. Meantime, 6% said they trusted "both equally" to handle crime while an equal 6% said they trusted neither.

This is a change from August, when a similar poll had Trump with a 43% lead on the issue over Harris' 42%.

In addition to policing and crime, the poll found that voters trust Harris more than Trump on five other issues prompted including:
• Abortion (53% to 30%)
• The environment (40% to 30%)
• Healthcare (50% to 32%)
• Election integrity (46% to 31%)
• The rule of law (46% to 35%)

On the other hand, Trump is more trusted than Harris on five out of the 12 issues, according to the poll:
• Immigration (45% to 40%)
• Defense (43% to 40%)
• The war in Israel-Palestine (40% to 38%)
• The economy (44% to 43%)
• The war in Ukraine (40% to 39%)

On inflation, both candidates are tied at 42%.

The poll shows the economy is the most-selected issue for both likely Trump (73%) and Harris (62%) voters.

Amongst likely Trump voters, other key issues include immigration (54%), healthcare (21%), and abortion (21%). Likely Harris voters cite the same issues as being important, but with a differing emphasis: 52% select abortion, 40% select healthcare, and 19% select immigration.

When asked who is more likely to win the election, 45% think Harris has the upper hand versus 37% who think Trump will be victorious. Another 10% believe the race will be a toss-up.

At the same time, the poll shows more voters think their neighbors are voting for Trump (47%) than Harris (44%).
