There are a handful of fan bases that legitimately qualify for that of the rowdiest bunch — the Bills and the Raiders (in their Oakland days) come to mind — but quarterback and MVP candidate Aaron Rodgers sees one group rise above the rest.
"I think the rowdiest and the biggest trash talkers — and the funniest trash talkers — are in Philly," Rodgers told former punter Pat McAfee. "There's been a lot of different interactions. We had a stretch where we played them a few times in Philly and one time I got hit with a battery in the helmet.
"But the funniest was, we were playing on a Monday night, I think it was in 2006 (or 2005)... the entire game, every time Favre would come out of the game and we would look at the pictures, someone in the stands would yell, 'Hey Rodgers, get the splinters out your ass!' The entire game, I mean he had to be in one of the first two rows, but every single time I came over, 'Get the splinters out your ass!' "
Rodgers lauded the fan for the stick-to-itiveness that was on display that game, and given that the Eagles won their home games against Favre's Packers in 2004 (47-17), 2005 (19-14) and 2006 (31-9), we're not surprised at just how enthusiastic this particular fan was.
Rodgers also brought up another notorious moment in the long and diverse history of Eagles fans, one which also occurred in that 2005 outing against Green Bay. In the midst of a subpar performance from Favre (171 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT), Christopher Noteboom, of Tempe, Arizona, ran out on the field with a small plastic bag filled with his mother's ashes and spread them across Lincoln Financial Field, and Rodgers was there to witness it.
While Philly fans are known for their passion and sometimes extravagant showings of fandom, it seems as though Rodgers has been (un)lucky enough to experience some of the wildest moments this fan base has to offer. I have as well: the first time I ever got flipped off was as a fifth grader in the backseat of my dad's car leaving an Eagles game, in which a fellow Eagles fan politely tapped his middling finger in the window in the process of cutting in front of our car. A dozen years later, I wouldn't have had my first middle finger experience any other way.
Interestingly enough, a Forbes study performed this year showed that the Packers, themselves, boast the most passionate fan base.
