If Minnesota has any chance of landing one of the top starting pitchers on the market from its AL Central rival, it will have to make an "overwhelming offer," Morosi notes.
It's worth noting the Twins boast one of the top farm systems in baseball. They have five top-100 prospects, including shortstop Royce Lewis (No. 7) and outfielder Alex Kirilloff (No. 13). The Tigers would figure to have particular interest in Kirilloff, a power-hitting lefty in Double-A.
22-year-old Trevor Larnach (No. 93 overall), another heavy-hitting outfielder in Double-A, could catch the Tigers' fancy as well.
Per Morosi, talks between Detroit and Minnesota have yet to make "substantial progress."
Considering the Twins appear to have interest in Greene as well, perhaps the Tigers could package him with Boyd in hopes of netting a huge return. In that case, either Lewis or Kirilloff would have to be included.
"Nobody’s been overly aggressive," he said -- and that's what it will take to pry Boyd from Detroit's hands.
With no waiver trade deadline this year, deals must be consummated by July 31.
