There may never be a better time for the Tigers to trade Shane Greene.
He's converted every one of his 15 save opportunities this season, which leads the AL, and he's sporting a 1.35 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP. He's under team control through next season.
It behooves the Tigers to sell high.
Sure enough, they're already in talks with the Braves, according to 92.9 The Game in Atlanta. And the Tigers are asking for a lot.
If the Tigers are indeed angling for an arm, it's a strange ask. Their farm system has a much more pressing need for position players. Their top three prospects, and four of their top six, are pitchers.
For the moment, anyway, it makes sense to set a high asking price. The Tigers have until July 31 to find an offer they like, and surely more teams will come calling.
It bears mention that the waiver trade deadline no longer exists, so deals must be consummated before August.
