97.1 The Ticket -- The Tigers made a pair of late moves in the final hour before Wednesday's MLB trade deadline, acquiring three pitchers and an outfielder.
The Tigers dealt closer Shane Greene to the Braves in exchange for left-handed pitcher Joey Wentz and power-hitting outfielder Travis Demeritte. Just minutes before the 4 p.m. deadline, the club struck a deal with the Cubs, sending Nicholas Castellanos to Chicago in exchange for right-handed pitching prospects Paul Richan and Alex Lange.

97.1 The Ticket's Pat Caputo ranked the four prospects in the haul, saying the pair of prospects received from Atlanta is better than what the Tigers got from Chicago.

"Which is understandable, because Greene had more value than Castellanos," Caputo said.

1. Joey Wentz

Wentz, ranked as the 7th best prospect in Atlanta's organization, posted a 4.72 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP and about a strikeout per inning over 20 starts in Double-A this season.

Caputo says Wentz, 21, ranks in between the likes of top Tigers pitching prospects Casey Mize and Matt Manning -- who Caputo calls "outstanding, top-of-the-rotation" prospects -- and Beau Burrows and Alex Faedo, the next step down in the ranks.

"Wentz falls right in between that," Caputo said. "He throws real hard, 95 mph, downward plane left-hander. His numbers at Double-A are bit underwhelming this year, but he's pitched better lately."

2. Travis Demeritte

Demeritte, who the Tigers expect to call up in the very near future, had 20 homers and a .944 OPS in 96 games with Triple-A Gwinnett. Caputo alikens him to Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones.

"A great athlete, somebody who can run; he can throw. He definitely has power, more power than JaCoby Jones," Caputo said.

3. Paul Richan

The 22-year-old Richan, a second-round pick in the 2018 MLB draft, was 10-5 with a 3.97 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 17 games for the Single-A Myrtle Beach.

4. Alex Lange

"I was surprised when I heard that name, Alex Lange," Caputo said. "He was a great college pitcher. I also talked to somebody not related to the Tigers organization who said he's a complete mess right now. He's not throwing hard, never has thrown as hard in professional baseball as he did in college."

The 23-year-old LSU product was 3-12 with a 5.82 ERA between Single-A and Double-A this year, but posted a 2-3 record with a 3.92 ERA at Double-A.
