Dial up your trade machines, Pistons fans. Mavericks' point guard Dennis Smith Jr. is reportedly on Detroit's radar.
Smith Jr., drafted ninth overall by the Mavs in 2017, has sat the last three games due to what the team has termed a sore back. Through 28 games this season, he's averaging 12.6 points and 3.9 assists.
Perhaps most notably, he's shooting 37.5 percent from three. The Pistons rank second to last in the league in three-point shooting at 33.0 percent.
Detroit's backup point guard Ish Smith returned to the lineup in Monday night's loss to the Jazz, so it's unclear how Smith Jr. would fit into a backcourt that also includes Reggie Jackson -- barring a corresponding trade.
The Pistons are on the fringe of the playoff race. They sit in 10th place in the East at 18-24, 1.5 games behind the eighth-place Hornets. They've won just five times in their past 22 games.
Still, the goal this season was to make the playoffs, and the Pistons aren't likely to waver from it.
The trade deadline is Feb. 7.
