Hockenson is the first tight end selected by the Lions in the first round of the draft since taking Eric Ebron 10th overall out of North Carolina in 2014. He's the first Hawkeye Detroit has drafted since offensive lineman Riley Reiff in 2012, also a first-rounder.

Houston defensive tackle was on the board, but the Lions opted to go with the tight end.
