Mentioning Adolf Hitler in any kind of positive light will always go bad for you. Millions of people dead, abject racism, torture, systematic destructure of an entire culture -- all bad things.
That doesn't seem like a divisive opinion in most circles.
Enter Grand Valley State offensive coordinator Morris Berger, who finds himself suspended after he commented on wanting to have dinner with Adolf Hitler.
Lanthorn.com ran a story titled, "Inside the mind of GVSU's newest offensive coordinator."
Lanthorn asked Berger, "So you graduated from Drury with a degree in History, you're a history guy. If you could have dinner with three historical figures, living or dead, who would they be? And I'm ruling out football figures."
Berger knew his answer wasn't going to be well received. He said, "... probably not going to get a good review, but I'm going to say Adolf Hitler. It was obviously very sad and he had bad motives, but the way he was able to lead was second-to-none. How he rallied a group and a following, I want to know how he did that. Bad intentions of course, but you can't deny he wasn't a great leader."
The paper is now reporting that Berger is suspended saying, "Newly announced football offensive coordinator Morris Berger has been suspended, according to a Grand Valley State University Statement provided to the Lanthorn. The University added that a "thorough investigation" into Morris' conduct is ongoing."
It's never a good idea to side with Hitler.
