'I'm Boat Guy' From The Valenti Show: Be There At The Birth Of The Bit [FULL AUDIO]

(97.1 The Ticket) "I'm boat guy."

With those three words, a million laughs were born.

But how did that infamous drop on the Valenti Show happen? Here we bring you the full call, the origin story if you will, for boat guy.

It started with a simple phone call during a lifestyle segment on a slow sports day. Why do people love to spend their time on the lake? What's the allure? Why do people love to tell you about their boats and how relaxing they are?

Look at that sunset! Aren't you relaxed?!!

Enter boat guy.

Bill cold called with his opinion and was immediately patched through to Mike Valenti to speak live on air. With the distinctive voice of happy, satisfied man, he explained to the crew why boats have so many accolades.

"Here's the trick. You leave the dock about 7:30, 8 o'clock, when everyone else is calling it a day, and you go out and you're the only one on the water, you've got the whole lake to yourself. You sail out to the middle of the Lake St. Clair and watch the beautiful, beautiful sunset into the west," he proclaimed. You could virtually hear the sand and sunshine dripping from his voice.

Valenti dug deep. What about when there's no wind?

Use your motor.  Bill talked speed, sunsets, boat maintenance, gas tanks with the fervor of a disciple. Near the end, producer Mike Sullivan was dropping "I'm boat guy" all over his sentences.

"Bill, I apologize, these guys are out of order ... What is wrong with you guys?" Valenti asked, screaming laughter as "I'm boat guy" dropped all over Bill's call.

A bit was born.

Update: Boat Guy was upset in the Stoney and Wojo invitational. Pleas were made on air for him to call in, but that call never came. Many wondered where Boat Guy had gone or if he was a real listener.

Turns out he was in Tawas on a family reunion for a week. "He's a man of luxury," said Valenti.

Many were telling him he was a local celebrity now because of his infamous call, drops and song.

Then he called in to explain himself and it was gold once again. You gotta love that Boat Guy likes a hard cider, but preaches against drinking and boating.
