A Detroit Lions linebacker is apparently in trouble with the law.
According to reports, Trevor Bates was arrested around 3 a.m. Saturday in New York after allegedly punching a police officer. It happened after Bates apparently refused to pay a cab fare.
TMZ says the fare was about $32. The driver said he called police because Bates ran off without paying, claiming he didn't have any cash or cards.
Officers apprehended Bates at a hotel and he was taken to a local police precinct. While being processed, Bates allegedly became upset and struck an officer.
Lions Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Quinn said the organization is aware of Bates' arrest.
"We have not spoken to Trevor as of yet and are still in the process of gathering more information," he said in a statement. "The Detroit Lions will have no further comment at this time."
