Lions Trade Down – Twice – In Stoney's Final Mock Draft

With the NFL Draft beginning Thursday, the experts are submitting their final mocks.

Peter King, for instance, has the Lions trading down with the Dolphins and taking Jeffrey Okudah. And our very own Mike Stone, better known as the 'Godfather of Sports Radio,' has the Lions trading down with the Dolphins, then again with the Chargers and taking ... well, we'll get to that in a minute.
Stoney had the Lions trading down with the Chargers in his first mock, too, then selecting Auburn DT Derrick Brown sixth overall. Jeffrey Okudah was off the board, so Detroit went with the player its coaching staff is apparently high on

The board looks different in Stoney's second mock. Joe Burrow and Chase Young go first and second, as expected. Then the Dolphins trade picks No. 5, 39 and 70 to Detroit for No. 3 and the right to select Tua Tagovailoa.

After the Giants take Alabama OT Jedrick Wills No. 4, the Lions swing another trade, sending the fifth overall pick to the Chargers for picks Nos. 6, 71 and 151. Los Angeles takes Oregon QB Justin Herbert.

That puts the Lions on the clock with the trio of Okudah, Brown and Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons on the board. And Detroit sicks with Brown, which at this point wouldn't be a major surprise. While Okudah remains the favorite, Brown, the 2019 SEC Defensive Player of the Year, is said to be making a late push up the Lions' board.

Simmons goes No. 7 to the Panthers and Okudah goes No. 9 to the Jaguars, sandwiched around Iowa OL Tristan Wirfs to the Cardinals. The Browns take Louisville OT Mekhi Becton No. 10.

With the two trades, the Lions end up with an extra second rounder and two extra thirds, giving them seven picks in the top 85. They also add an extra fifth.
