97.1 The Ticket -- Maroon 5 is set to perform the halftime show at Sunday's Super Bowl. We've known that for a while.

But the real news is that they might have quite the special guest for their performance -- SpongeBob Squarepants.

In a promo video for next week's performance, Maroon 5 flashed a quick clip of SpongeBob in the famous "Band Geeks" episode where he performs the song "Sweet Victory" at halftime of "The Bubble Bowl."

A Super Bowl appearance has long been pined for by SpongeBob fans; so much so that a petition was created earlier this season to get "Sweet Victory" performed at Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta.

Some sort of performance or even an animated short would likely be in tribute to the show's creator, Stephen Hillenburg, who died in November.

The voice of Squidward apparently confirmed that his character will at least be making an appearance during the show.
