97.1 The Ticket -- When brothers Sam and Joey Hauser announced they were transferring from Marquette, many in the college basketball world figured they would be a package deal for some lucky school.

Turns out, that wasn't the case.

In separate Twitter posts on Tuesday, the younger Joey announced he will be heading to Michigan State, while Sam will be joining the defending national champions at Virginia. Both players will have to sit out the 2019-20 season. Joey will have three seasons of eligibility at MSU, while Sam will have just one year at UVA.

Michigan State only had one scholarship available for next season, making it difficult to find a way to land both brothers. Many thought the brothers would both end up at the University of Wisconsin, about two hours from their hometown of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Joey Hauser, a 6-foot-9 forward, joined his older brother at Marquette last season, averaging 9.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in his freshman season.

"Thank you to Coach Izzo and his staff for the opportunity," Hauser said in his statement on Twitter. "Once again, thank you Marquette University for allowing me to represent them this past season. I can't wait to take this next step in my college career."

"We're very excited to add Joey Hauser to our roster and welcome him to the Spartan family," MSU Head Coach Tom Izzo said in a press release. "Joey is a kid we recruited out of high school and we were very familiar with him and he knew us. We believe in him as a person and really love what he brings to the table as a player. He's a hard-working player who is versatile, has a high basketball IQ and is a winner. We think he'll be a great addition for our program."

The newest Spartan scored a career-high 21 points for the Golden Eagles against Xavier in January. He cracked double digits in the scoring column in 17 games last season.

The Spartans heavily recruited Hauser during his high school years, but he ultimately opted to join his brother Marquette. He graduated high school early and enrolled at Marquette for the spring 2018 semester.

The elder Hauser started 96 of his 101 career games for Marquette, averaging 12.7 PPG over three seasons.
