It's hot down in Houston for joint practices between the Lions and Texans, and things got even hotter Thursday between Matt Patricia and J.J. Watt.
Per various reports, Patricia and Watt got into a NSFW shouting match when the Texans star nearly made contact with Matthew Stafford during a red zone drill.
Per MLive's Kyle Meinke:
Matt Patricia and J.J. Watt exchanged four-lettered pleasantries in practice today. Patricia seemed upset that Watt got too close to Stafford during RZ drills, Watt told him [redacted>, and Patricia told him [redacted>.
— kyle meinke (@kmeinke) August 15, 2019At one point, per ABC 13's David Nuno, Watt had to be held back by his teammates as he and Patricia were going at it.
"(Watt) and Patricia were jawing at each other," Nuno reported. "I can't even give some of the language. But J.J. was being held and he was letting the Lions know about it, and Matt Patricia was giving it right back to J.J."
On the play that sparked the spat, Watt blew past Lions right tackle Rick Wagner and then got a bit too close to Stafford for Patricia's comfort. Per SportsTalk790, Watt never made contact with Stafford, but forced him to double clutch. Patricia wasn't having it.
On the play Patricia got mad at Watt. Watt beat his guy. Ran by Stafford in front of him and did not touch him. Stafford was trying to throw and had to double clutch which lead to him gathering and throwing an incomplete pass. Watt didn't touch him, just got in his way. https://t.co/LeCF9DrpAH
