For a moment there Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, it looked like the Pistons were going to pull the trigger on a trade for Mike Conley. But the Grizzlies wanted more, and the Pistons weren't willing to provide it.

Conley will remain with the Grizzlies for at least the rest of this season, with Thursday's trade deadline having come and gone.

The Grizzlies are keeping Mike Conley, league sources tell ESPN. Memphis discussed deals with multiple teams, but ultimately decided to hold onto their franchise point guard.

Per various reports on Wednesday, the Pistons' offer to Memphis was Reggie Jackson and a first-round pick. Memphis wanted either Luke Kennard or a second first-round pick in addition.

The Pistons, mindful of their future, stood pat.

Conley, 31, carries cap hits of $32.5 million in 2019-20 and $34.5 million in 2020-21. With Detroit trying to maximize Blake Griffin's window, expect the team to call Memphis again in the offseason.

Owner Tom Gores made it clear during a recent visit to Detroit that he has a win-now mindset. A full-scale rebuild, as far as he's concerned, is out of the question.

The 24-29 Pistons are 1.5 games out of the last playoff spot in the East.

Their moves ahead of Thursday's trade deadline consisted of sending Reggie Bullock to the Lakers for Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and a second-round draft pick, and dealing Stanley Johnson as part of a three-team trade for Thon Maker.
