If you put peanut butter in a Kong, your dog can't focus on anything else.
Mike Valenti sees a parallel between that and the rumors about Russell Westbrook potentially coming to the Detroit Pistons.
"I think you're falling for the light show," he said, adding that pro and con discussion doesn't matter when it comes to the most important thing about a team.
Winning.
"I don't want nothing to do with Russell Westbrook," Valenti said, adding he loves the player as long as he doesn't play on his team.
There's a reason people aren't lining up for Westbrook, Valenti added, saying he has the second worst contract in basketball. And on the wrong side of 30, his game is predicated solely on athleticism.
He's owed $124 million through the 2021-22 season with a $47 million player option for 2022-23.
It's a "contract nobody wants," Valenti said, for a player that for all his greatness has already started to decline.
He can't get along with anyone, and his three-point game is abysmal.
"You know what he shot for 3-point last year? Twenty-nine percent. He barely shot 42% from the floor. This is a guy who can't shoot the three," Valenti said.
Overall, he said if Russell Westbrook was as sweet a get as some people seem to think he is, there would be a line around the block for him.
But there's not.
"Putting Russell Westbrook-the-name on your team doesn't make you a contender," he said. "Brody, Andre, Blake and a collection of nothing ... doesn't get you past the first round."
