Who will Shane Greene be pitching for at this time next week?

The Nationals might be the best bet.

Washington has been interested in the All-Star closer for a while now, and they seem to be upping their pursuit with the trade deadline just five days away.

The Nationals occupy one of the NL wild cards but have one of the worst bullpens in baseball. Greene could certainly give them a lift.

Question is, what will the Tigers want in return?

Per a report last week, Detroit has asked for Carter Kieboom, Washington's top prospect and the No. 19 overall prospect in baseball. The 21-year-old shortstop is hitting .320 with a .966 OPS in Triple-A this season.

That's a pipe dream for the Tigers. The Nationals won't trade Kieboom straight up for Greene. The same is likely true of their No. 2 prospect, infielder Luis Garcia.

The rest of their farm system is probably in play. Of course, Kieboom and Garcia are Washington's only two prospects who rank among the top 100 in baseball.

Greene, a free agent after next season, has a 1.22 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 37 innings this season. He said this week he would like to be part of the Tigers' rebuild, but the reality is he'll almost certainly be dealt.
