LINCOLN, Neb. (97.1 The Ticket) — Former Nebraska basketball coach Tim Miles played out his final days as the head of the Huskers knowing he was probably about to be fired.

The expectations were high in Lincoln going into the season, as the Cornhuskers returned four starters from a 22-win, near-NCAA Tournament team a year ago. Even after a solid 10-1 non-conference slate, Nebraska fans went into the New Year wondering what seed their team might earn in the Big Dance.

Instead, the Cornhuskers delivered a dismal performance, finishing 19-17 with a 6-14 record in the Big Ten.

Miles knew long ago he was probably out at season's end, telling WatchStadium.com's Jeff Goodman, "If they fire me, they're still going to pay me. I'm still a millionaire, so I've got that going for me," several weeks ago. He later issued an apology.

Miles seemingly kept things light over the final weeks of his tenure, even making the most out of a tumble he took after a win in the Big Ten Tournament.

On Tuesday, it was official. Athletic Director Bill Moos officially fired Miles and announced he has reached out to former Chicago Bulls and Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg.

But Miles continued to take an almost care-free approach. He thanked the Nebraska community in a tweet before addressing reporters on his way off campus:

Miles walked away from the media scrum with a big smile on his face, knowing he was about to go enjoy the company of his family, a nice cold brew, and a $2.2 million buyout. So who's the real loser here?
