If you're a Lions fan, here's a name you know: Jeffrey Okudah. Here's one you might want to learn: CJ Henderson.
While Okudah has been widely mocked to the Lions with the third overall pick in the draft, fellow cornerback C.J. Henderson might be the better player. If Detroit trades down as many expect, especially if it trades down further than say, Nos. 5 or 6, the best value could be Henderson.
Are the Lions one of those teams? Henderson, first-team All-SEC last season at Florida, has the same physical traits that Detroit seems to love in Okudah. He's not quite as long, but he's equally tall (6'1). And he has the speed to run with anyone -- in fact, he ran a faster 40 at the combine than Okudah.
But if Henderson stacks up physically, his physicality leaves something to be desired. And that will likely turn off Matt Patricia and the Lions, who place a premium on corners who can tackle. Henderson was sometimes knocked for avoiding contact in college.
What's more, Okudah is the ideal cornerback for Detroit. He excels in press coverage, which the Lions play a ton of under Patricia. Other teams might prefer Henderson. But if Detroit does take a cornerback in the first round next week, Okudah remains the favorite.
