It came as a surprise when D'Andre Swift fell out of the first round of the draft. It comes as no surprise that the new Lions running back is among the early favorites for Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Per the sporsbook BetOnline.ag, Swift has 12-1 odds to take home the award in 2020. That's tied for fifth best with Chargers QB Justin Herbert and Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy.

Bengals QB and first overall pick Joe Burrow leads the pack at 5-2, followed by Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (8-1), Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (9-1) and Colts RB Jonathan Taylor (9-1).

Swift will have a chance to make an immediate impact in Detroit. He joins a team committed to running the ball, and he's a weapon in the passing game as well.

The only limit to his value is the fact he'll be splitting carries with Kerryon Johnson and Bo Scarbrough. That's likely why Swift's over/under for rushing yards is set at 625, while Edwards-Helaire checks in at 950.

You can probably guess the last Lions player to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. It happens to be Swift's favorite running back of all time: Barry Sanders. Now Swift will try to follow in his footsteps.

On the other side of the ball, Detroit's top pick Jeff Okudah is among the favorites for Defensive Rookie of the Year. At 20-1, he's tied with Bills DE A.J. Epenesa for the fifth-best odds.

Redskins DE Chase Young (5-1) is predictably the leader, followed by Cardinals LB Isaiah Simmons (8-1), Chargers LB Kenneth Murray (14-1) and Ravens LB Patrick Queen (14-1).

Lions DE Julian Okwara is also among those to watch. Selected No. 67 overall, Okwara is listed at 25-1, tied for eighth with first-rounders such as Panthers DT Derrick Brown, 49ers DT Javon Kinlaw and Jaguars CB C.J. Henderson.

The Lions expect Okudah to step in and start right away, while Okwara will bring his pass-rushing ability to a defense that needs it.

Detroit's last Defensive Rookie of the Year was No. 2 overall pick Ndamukong Suh in 2010.
