Draft Watch: Lions Reportedly Showing Interest In Utah RB Zack Moss

Given their situation at running back, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Lions address the position in the draft. Early in the draft, even.

Could Utah's Zack Moss be their primary target?

Moss had a formal interview with the Lions at the NFL combine last week, according to reports. He's considered one of the draft's top five RBs, likely to go in the second or third round.

Utah RB Zack Moss had formal combine interviews with the Rams, Packers, Chiefs, Bills, Chargers, Seahawks, Colts, Texans, Saints, Steelers, Cardinals, and Lions. Dolphins and Cardinals have requested private facility workouts. Ran a 4.65 40 on a strained hamstring. Pro day 3/26.

The Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year last season, Moss rushed for 1,416 yards and 15 touchdowns. He added 388 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He was a workhorse at Utah, racking up 628 carries over his final three seasons.

Moss runs with speed and power behind a sturdy frame, which would make him a good complement to Kerryon Johnson. The Lions' backfield also figures to include Bo Scarbrough, Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic in 2020.

Lions Should Take Hard Look At Two RB's Early In Draft

While that's four running backs right now, Kerryon Johnson is an injury liability until he proves he isn't. Detroit needs to be better prepared if/when he gets hurt again. And Moss would give them two legitimate weapons if Johnson stays healthy.

The Lions could add an extra day-two pick or two if they opt to trade down in the first round, as it appears they might. That would give them the ability to prioritize defense, while still targeting a running back like Moss.
