Ex-Packers WR James Jones Rips Ford Field: "It's A Practice Field Atmosphere"

Most players in the NFL consider Ford Field one of the louder stadiums in the league -- at least, that's what they say.

James Jones is here to tell you something different.

During a conversation on the NFL Network this week, the former Packers receiver said the Chiefs should be on upset alert Sunday "because the Detroit Lions have the best home field advantage in the National Football League."

Wait, that sounds like a compliment.

"The reason why is, it's a practice field atmosphere out there," Jones said. "It's very, very quiet."

Huh?

"When we used to be out at practice with Coach Mike (McCarthy), no music, no nothing, you have to create your own energy. Because when you get in that Detroit Lions stadium, there's no energy in there. You walk out there and you're ready to go to sleep.

"Then you look up in the fourth quarter and it's 21-7 Detroit and you're thinking, 'Oh, it's time to make a play.' But it's too late. Your teammates are trying to (fire you up), you're like, 'Man, this ain't -- are we playing a game right now?' The best home field advantage in the National Football League. It's way too quiet."

If that's the case, it didn't seem to have an impact on Jones and the Packers. He went 6-2 at Ford Field in his career. And Jones exceeded his career averages in both yards per game (49.3) and yards per reception (15.7) when he played at Detroit. He also hauled in three touchdowns.

For whatever reason, the stadium left a much different impression.
