Lions Reportedly Sign Another Linebacker In Elijah Lee

The Lions have targeted two areas of their roster in free agency: defense and special teams.

They made another upgrade in the latter department -- while adding more depth in the former -- by signing linebacker Elijah Lee on Friday, according to the Detroit News.

Lee, 24, played a big role on special teams for the NFC West-winning 49ers in 2019. He'll join a revamped special teams group in Detroit that features fellow newcomers safety Jayron Kearse, cornerback Tony McRae and wide receiver Geremy Davis.

On defense, Lee will give the Lions another option at linebacker behind the likes of Jamie Collins, Jahlanli Tavai, Christian Jones, Jarrad Davis and the recently-signed Reggie Ragland. He saw a good deal of action on defense for the 49ers in 2018, before transitioning primarily to special teams last season.

Of Detroit's 11 signings in free agency, nine have targeted defense and/or special teams. They also traded for Patriots safety Duron Harmon.

Their only clear-cut offensive additions have been offensive lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai and backup QB Chase Daniel.
