The Lions have added another piece on defense.
The team signed cornerback Darryl Roberts to a one-year deal Thursday, according to NFL Network. Roberts had six passes defended, one interception and 63 tackles in 13 games (10 starts) for the Jets last season.
He'll join Justin Coleman and fellow newcomer Desmond Trufant as the top corners in Detroit's secondary. Second-year pro Amani Oruwariye should play a bigger role in 2020 as well.
The Lions have also been linked frequently to Ohio State CB Jeffrey Okudah in the draft.
Detroit has overhauled its defense this offseason after allowing over 400 yards per game in 2019. Roberts is the team's seventh key addition on that side of the ball, not counting the likes of CB Tony McRae, S Jayron Kearse and LB Elijah Lee who are likely to contribute mostly on special teams.
Roberts spent his first four seasons with the Jets, starting 20 games over the last two. He was a seventh-round pick out of Marshall in 2016.
