So maybe the NFL isn't pushing back its most important games, after all.
A day after it was reported the league would dedicate the first four weeks of this season to NFC-AFC matchups, Danny Parkins of 670 The Score reported Thursday morning the Lions will host the Bears in Week 1.
The full NFL schedule will be announced Thursday night, but you can't stop the leaks.
670 The Score also reported the Bears won't play the Lions on Thanksgiving, for what would have been the third year in a row. Chicago will be in Green Bay that weekend. So a Thanksgiving matchup between the Lions and the Vikings seems likely.
The last time the Lions kicked off the season against the Bears was 2010, a 19-14 loss at Solider Field. They haven't hosted the Bears in Week 1 since 1982, a 17-10 victory for the Lions.
Chicago has had Detroit's number of late, winning the last four matchups. Prior to that, the Lions had won nine of the last 10.
It was presumed the NFL would frontload the schedule with NFC-AFC games lest the coronavirus force a cancellation of the early portion of the season. That would protect games with potentially bigger implications from being wiped out.
But it appears the NFL is confident it can play a full slate of games.
