Lions Tried To Trade Down – But 'Dolphins Never Took The Bait'

It was no secret that Bob Quinn and the Lions wanted to trade down from the No. 3 pick Thursday night. 

The Dolphins, at No. 5, seemed like the most realistic partner. And Detroit indeed tried to stir Miami's interest. 


But the Dolphins "never took the bait," according to ESPN's Jeff Darlington. 

"No offer. No negotiations. They were always staying at No. 5."

Despite the Lions' best efforts to generate interest in their pick leading into the #NFLDraft2020, I'm told the Dolphins never took the bait. They never tried to move up into that spot. No offer. No negotiations. They were always staying at No. 5.And now, Miami is on the clock.

And at No. 5, the Dolphins took QB Tua Tagovailoa, two picks after the Lions got their guy in Ohio State CB Jeff Okudah. 

It wasn't the ideal outcome for Detroit, but it appears their pick didn't hold the value they had hoped.
