Shea Patterson went undrafted, then waited several days to find a team as a free agent.
But the wait ended over the weekend when he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.
He'll join a QB room that features 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, plus former Ole Miss teammate Jordan Ta’amu and former Wolverine Chad Henne. He'll also join an offense that's similar to the one he played in last season at Michigan.
With Mahomes the obvious starter, Patterson's agent said the Chiefs "want Shea to come in to compete and help everyone get better and make himself better.”
Patterson spent two seasons at Michigan, finishing with 45 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. He'll look to launch his NFL career in Kansas City, even if that just entails learning from Mahomes.
His agent said Patterson remained upbeat throughout the free agency search.
“He wasn’t a crybaby, he’s an NFL player, and you have to be tough to be an NFL quarterback. He was wading through the process, I was wading through the process, and Shea stayed ready, making sure it was a good fit," he said. "It took a little bit longer, but now he’s got a home.”
