It sounds like Connor Heyward has played his final game for Michigan State.
The junior running back has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.
Heyward began the season as Michigan State's starting running back, but lost the job after the first game to redshirt freshman Elijah Collins. He got 15 carries in the season opener, compared to a total of nine over his last three games.
Then he missed the Spartans' win over Indiana last weekend due to "personal reasons," according to Mark Dantonio.
Last season Heyward led Michigan State in rushing and averaged a healthy 4.5 yards per carry. He was also named honorable mention All-Big Ten as a kick returner. That put him at the top of the running back depth chart entering this season, but he didn't stay there long.
Now he'll hope to rebound somewhere else.
Because he's only played in four games this season, Hayward will have two years of eligibility remaining at a new program. He had 24 carries for 79 yards and seven receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown this year.
With Hayward out of the picture, the Spartans will proceed with a backfield of Collins, Elijah Jefferson and true freshman Anthony Williams Jr.
