(97.1 The Ticket) -- Mike Giannone is no longer the head football coach Warren De La Salle, the school announced Monday afternoon.
In a statement emailed to parents regarding a lawsuit surrounding the hazing allegations that prompted De La Salle to end its football season on the eve of the MHSAA state playoffs, the school also disclosed that Giannone was no longer with the school.

"We have made our best effort to communicate regularly with the De La Salle Collegiate community and be forthright with our actions in regard to the alleged hazing incident(s). By now, you may have seen the news about the lawsuit that was filed against De La Salle today. We are also writing to inform you that Mike Giannone is no longer with our school," the email said.

The school would not disclose whether Giannone was fired or if he resigned.

"While we cannot comment on legal matters or human resources, we want to impart that we have been steadfast in maintaining the safety, health, and education of all De La Salle students as our top priority while we navigate this troubling issue," the email to parents continued. "We have been working in full collaboration with our Board of Trustees and the Christian Brothers on all actions in response to the hazing allegations and will continue to do so as we address this lawsuit and other next steps."

The email concluded with: "Our hearts and prayers are with those impacted by the hazing, particularly the students who were victimized and their families."

Giannone was hired as the Pilots head coach in 2016 and led the team to back-to-back Division 2 state titles in 2017 and 2018. Giannone also won back-to-back titles with Macomb Dakota High School in 2006-07.

In the lawsuit filed Monday, three students who were suspended from De La Salle in the wake of the hazing investigation claim they were racially discriminated against. An investigation by Warren police found that multiple varsity football players held a younger player face down in the locker room, while one player sexually taunted and prodded him with a broomstick. Investigators say there was no penetration.

St. Clair County Prosecutor Mike Wendling says Warren Police are seeking charges against only three individuals, but he says the investigation remains "wide open."
