97.1 The Ticket -- The Detroit Mercy men's basketball team will not be going dancing.
The NCAA had previously deemed the Titans ineligible for the postseason -- that includes the Horizon League Tournament and any other postseason tournaments -- for the team's subpar Academic Performance Rate.
The Team's APR from the 2014-15 academic year through 2017-18 was at 920, just below the cumulative score of 930 that is required for postseason eligibility.
The university had appealed the NCAA's ban, but announced Tuesday they had lost the appeal.
The Titans will be eligible for postseason play in 2020-21.
"Since learning of this decision in the spring of 2019, Director of Athletics Robert C. Vowels, Jr. has taken numerous steps to improve the men's basketball APR score. The NCAA has also accepted Detroit Mercy's APR improvement plan and has granted relief from further penalties beginning with the 2020-2021 season," the university said in a statement.
Detroit Mercy has had a rough go of it this year, sitting at 7-22 overall on the season, despite sophomore Antoine Davis's 23.6 points per game being good enough for fifth-best in the country. He finished third in the nation with 26.1 PPG a year ago.
The Titans will hit the road this weekend for their final two games of the season, Thursday at UIC and Saturday at IUPUI.
