Tom Gores and the Pistons are going back to a traditional front office.

The team is opening a search for a general manager to work alongside senior advisor Ed Stefanski, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. Stefanski, who has acted as GM since he was hired in 2018, will head up the search with Pistons vice chairman Arn Tellem.

Per Wojnarowski, the new GM will 'work closely with Stefanski and coach Dwane Casey on personnel matters.'

The Pistons haven't had a formal GM since Jeff Bower was fired after the 2017-18 season. Bower and former head coach/president Stan Van Gundy worked in tandem from 2014-18.

Gores opted for a different front office structure upon hiring Stefanski, hoping it would lead to better results on the floor. That hasn't been the case.

With the team now in the early stages of a rebuild, Gores' latest decision is another acknowledgement that changes are necessary.
