The Tigers hit the fewest home runs in the American League last season. They showed glimpses of changing that this year in their first exhibition game of Summer Camp Tuesday night versus the Reds.

JaCoby Jones, Niko Goodrum and free agent acquisition Jonathan Schoop went back-to-back-to-back in the second inning against one of the top left-handed pitching prospects in baseball, Nick Lodolo. Scoop's blast landed in the second deck.

The barrage staked the Tigers to a 5-0 lead, but the Reds would rally to win 9-7.

Ron Gardenhire was nevertheless pleased with the evening. The games don't start to count until Friday.

"This is one of those parks where you get a good pitch and put a good swing on it, the ball goes flying. We were putting some good swings out there early," he said. "It was a good night. Stayed healthy and got lots of work in, which is what we wanted to see. It was fun playing another team."

The Tigers and Reds will square off in another exhibition Wednesday night, before kicking off the season Friday night in Cincinnati.
