Will Lions End Up On Hard Knocks In 2020?

The Lions were in the mix for 'Hard Knocks' last year, and they'll be back in the mix this year.

Per the NFL's agreement with HBO, the Lions are one of five teams eligible to appear on the show in 2020.

The others are the Broncos, Cardinals, Jaguars and Steelers. The team that is selected cannot say no.

Locally, the Lions would make for a fascinating watch. Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia are very much on the hot seat in their third season together, so the pressure to win will be high. And a notoriously secretive organization would be forced to operate in plain sight.

Quinn and Patricia, like most NFL head coaches and GMs, were clear about their aversion to appearing on Hard Knocks last year.

Nationally, though, the appeal of the Lions isn't all that high. Both the Steelers, with the return of Ben Roethlisberger, and the Cardinals, entering year two with Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury, would likely attract more viewers.

Teams that haven't hired a new head coach, haven't made the playoffs in the past two years and haven't appeared on Hard Knocks in the past 10 years are eligible for the show.
