The Pistons appear close to checking off the top two items on their offseason to-do list.
On Sunday they signed Derrick Rose to a two-year deal to provide depth at point guard, and on Monday they will meet with Javale McGee in hopes of securing a backup center.
Free agent center JaVale McGee plans to meet with the Detroit Pistons on Monday, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.
— Chris Haynes (@ChrisBHaynes) July 1, 2019In 75 games for the Lakers last season, McGee averaged a career-high 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. He played about 22 minutes per night.
The Pistons are searching for a center to play behind Andre Drummond after moving on from Zaza Pachulia, who had a limited impact last season.
McGee, 31, proved his worth as a backup center during two championship runs with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
The Flint native is coming off a one-year, $2.3 million deal with the Lakers.
If the Pistons agree to a deal with McGee, it will consume most of what's left of their limited cap space.
The team also met with forward Jared Dudley on Sunday, per Chris Mannix.
