The Tigers acquired Franklin Perez from the Astros as the centerpiece of the Justin Verlander trade in August of 2017. Perez has since made a total of seven appearances in Detroit's system.

And he won't be boosting that number anytime soon.

The 21-year-old has been shut down with right shoulder tendinitis and will miss four to six weeks, the Tigers announced on Friday.

It's yet another setback for Perez, the Tigers' no. 3 prospect according to MLB Pipeline. He missed the bulk of the 2018 season due to a right lat strain that sidelined him for the first three months and then inflammation in his right shoulder that put him on the shelf for good in July.

He posted a 6.52 ERA over seven appearances in the low levels of the minors.

When the Tigers acquired Perez, he was the No. 41 prospect in baseball. He instantly became the top prospect in Detroit's organization.

He slipped to No. 67 in 2018, then to No. 78 entering this season. His health is a growing concern.

To restore some of his value, Perez will have to come back strong from his latest injury -- and then stay on the mound.
