For the second straight year, the Red Wings will pick sixth at the NHL Draft.
They fell two spots in the draft lottery, which was held Tuesday night. Both the Blackhawks and the Rangers jumped them.
The Red Wings had the fourth best odds of winning the lottery. It's the third year in a row they've fallen down the board.
It's generally considered that there are three elite players in this year's draft, including American center Jack Hughes, the presumptive first overall pick.
The Red Wings will get a talented player, nonetheless.
General manager Ken Holland disusssed the draft Tuesday morning on the Jamie and Stoney Show on 97.1 The Ticket.
"The odds are, you're going to get your stars with high-end picks, the Ovechkins and Malkins and Crosbys, so if you get a one or a two it's easier (to get a star). But certainly there's really good players throughout the draft every year, because you're dealing with 18 year olds and you're guessing," Holland said.
The first round of the draft will be held June 21.
