DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) -- The Detroit Tigers and Fox Sports Detroit will reportedly announce one of their own as the new play-by-play announcer for the club next season.
Lynn Henning of the Detroit News reported Monday night that Shepard, who has been with FSD for nearly 20 years, will be announced Tuesday as the replacement for former play-by-play man Mario Impemba, who was dismissed from the broadcast team last September, along with Rod Allen, following an altercation between the two in Chicago.
Shepard's introduction is expected to happen during Tuesday's Red Wings game at Little Caesars Arena, along with the rest of FSD's Tigers broadcast team, according to Henning. He is expected to be joined in the booth by Kirk Gibson and Jack Morris, two former Tigers who have experience calling games.
Matt Shepard wins Tigers TV play-by-play job as FSD and Tigers decide to stick with the man who filled in for Mario Impemba. Gibson and Morris will be analysts. Dan Petry will assist Craig Monroe in pre- and post-game stints.

— Detroit News Sports (@detnews_sports) January 15, 2019Shepard has been somewhat of a "utility man" for FSD throughout the years, working as a studio host, sideline reporter and more. Shepard made several appearances as the TV play-by-play announcer last season, including the majority of September, while filling in following the dismissal of Impemba.
Shepard is also the play-by-play radio announcer for University of Michigan men's basketball and Eastern Michigan University football. His future with U of M basketball remains unclear, as the Wolverines' season will overlap with Tigers Spring Training.
Shepard has continued to call games recently, even through a family crisis. His wife, Lisa, and his son, Scott were injured in a car accident Jan. 4 in Auburn Hills.
Overwhelmed by your sentiments. I could never express just how much it means. My wife is a fighter. She's had one surgery, another tomorrow and perhaps three more. My son was concussed and bruised, but he's ok. We are blessed to have so many friends. Thank you very much

Truly blessed to have so many people send their prayers & support us all. Forever grateful. Can't thank you enough
