Could Andre Drummond be on the move?
It appears the Pistons and the Atlanta Hawks have talked about a possible trade for the All-Star center.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, "Detroit and Atlanta have been engaged in talks on a trade centered on Andre Drummond, league sources tell ESPN. No deal imminent, but Detroit is talking to Hawks and several other teams on Drummond, sources said."
Wojnarowski continued to say, "Drummond has a $28M player option for next season that he is unlikely to exercise, forcing the Pistons to consider possibility of losing him in free agency. Among teams, there's an increasing belief that Drummond will be moved before February 6 trade deadline."
The Atlanta Hawks have extra first round picks from Brooklyn and potentially Oklahoma City to put in a trade for Andre Drummond. Matching $27M in salary for Dummond in trade is no issue, as the Hawks can simply send Chandler Parsons' expiring $25M contract to Pistons.
— Keith Smith (@KeithSmithNBA) January 3, 2020Drummond has a player option for 2020-21 worth about $28 million. He's averaging 17.6 points and 15.8 rebounds this season; he leads the NBA in the latter category for the third straight year.
Pistons owner Tom Gores spoke with the media Thursday night and acknowledged the Pistons could be transitioning toward a rebuild.
"We probably have to take some chances with some of the young guys, but absolutely," Gores said, via the Free Press. "That's what we're aspiring to – something bigger than what we've been doing, but I haven't lost faith in what (Dwane Casey) is doing and how we're developing the players and our future."
The NBA trade deadline is February 6.
