Spencer Torkelson Was A Beast On The Football Field [VIDEO]

Most pro athletes were stars in multiple sports in high school. Tigers first overall pick Spencer Torkelson was no different.

Torkelson was a running back and defensive back in football for Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, CA. He was also a stand-out basketball player.

MaxPreps.com has a full break down of Tork's high school football career.

As a sophomore, the Tigers' third baseman of the future averaged 7.0 yards per carry and scored six touchdowns. He followed that up by scoring nine touchdowns as a junior. He also was one heck of a defensive back; the second play of his senior year highlight tape is an amazing pick-six.

Not only was Torkelson a phenomenal athlete in high school, he also became friends with Food Network star Guy Fieri. Torkelson's mother is Fieri's chief financial offer for the three restaurants he owns in California.

Fieri has been hyping up Torkelson for awhile now, tweeting last September, "He's gonna go big!" And when Torkelson went first overall to the Tigers Wednesday night, Fieri was one of the first to congratulate him.

Congrats @spennyt! Keep krushin' it brutha! https://t.co/E98BfohiM2

Looks like Tigers have a new fan to go with their new prospect.

"I do have a beautiful New Era fitted Detroit hat that I was telling Spencer about yesterday, so I will be wearing it," Fieri told MLB Network. "I will be proudly attending some games."
