Just when it looked like the Tigers were keeping Nick Castellanos, they traded him to the Cubs.

The move went down minutes before Wednesday's 4 p.m. trade deadline, and word didn't trickle out until shortly thereafter.

In return, the Tigers are receiving two right-handed pitching prospects: 22-year-old Paul Richan, who ranked 16th among Chicago's prospects, and 23-year-old Alex Lange, who ranked No. 23.

Richan, a second-round pick in 2018, has a 3.97 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP in 17 starts in High-A this season.

Lange, a first-round pick in 2017, has a 3.92 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP in seven starts in Double-A since a promotion from High-A.

As for Castellanos, it became clear as the season went on that he wasn't part of the Tigers' long-term plans. His career in Detroit comes to an end after six seasons.

He played 837 games for the Tigers, hitting .273 with 104 homers and 424 RBI.
